Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk,
Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, MalachI.
These are the final books of the Prophets, sometimes referred to as the ‘minor prophets’.  Not discounting
their messages, or the importance of their words, or their books.  The Prophesies contained in most of
these works,  with few exception, have already come to fulfillment.  They are more useful  for instruction,
and edification, rather than aiding in interpretation of the events to come.
The books of the minor Prophets share the same basic theme of disobedience, punishment, repentance,
and the everlasting love of God.
Listed are a few of the books, and some key issues, and major points.
Hosea: The first two chapters starts with God telling the Prophet to take a wife of prostitution.  The wife,
Gomer, and the resulting children represent unfaithful Israel and her  whoredom, and Gods resulting
punishments.
Ch. 11  Interesting, in that Israel is referred to as a ‘son’.  Typically, Israel is referred to in the female gender, unless it is talking about
the man, Jacob.  The verse then goes on to convey a prophesy of Jesus and His eternal reign.
Ch. 12-14  Talking about Ephraim, 12 starts out telling of Ephraim’s false prosperity, and their delusions, and their backslidings and
whoredom.  Going on to their cruel destruction, and then to the everlasting love, forgiveness, and healing of God.
Joel:  Again, the same basic theme….. A warning, then the results of continuing in the sin, then
repentance, healing, and renewal.
Ch. 1  A warning of suffering to come.
Ch. 2  The  consummation of the results of the sinful nation.  A description of the prophesies in Revelation regarding the armies of
God’s judgment..
Jonah:  The Book of Jonah is a story all by itself.
This is a well known story about a prophet, Jonah, who is called by God to witness to a kingdom that is living
in sin against God.  Jonah boards a ship in order to escape from God. The ship  was caught in a storm at
sea,  and the sailors, fearing for their lives, toss Jonah into the sea to deliver them from the wrath of God.
Jonah is then swallowed by a giant fish which the Lord had provided.  After three days Jonah repents and
the fish vomits Jonah onto the land, where he preaches repentance to the city.
